La Peña Trail - Touring the cliffs of the Chicamocha Canyon

This hike is designed for people who are in good physical shape and exercise regularly. The hike skirts the rocky outcrop from the village of La Mojarra to the town of Los Santos, crossing a rocky and steep terrain, full of the fauna and flora of the tropical dry forest. Along the way, you will enjoy the typical landscape of the Chicamocha Canyon, walking among tobacco crops and peasant houses.

The journey includes sections of the ancestral trails of the Chicamocha Canyon and has an approximate duration of four to five hours, with short and regular breaks. During the hike, you will enjoy a delicious traditional breakfast in the mountains, prepared by peasant hands in the heat of the firewood. In addition, you will be able to contemplate majestic landscapes and immerse yourself in the Santander culture. Come and live an authentic and enriching experience in one of Colombia's paradises.

Experience conditions

The level of this hike is intermediate, participants must be in good health. It is important to wear comfortable and breathable clothing, appropriate footwear, a raincoat, hat or cap, sunscreen, and sufficient hydration (minimum two liters per person). For safety reasons, it is recommended to follow the guide's instructions, avoid the consumption of alcohol and psychoactive substances the day before, and do not bring vegetation from the area.
