Those who baptized it with the name of Barichara, which in Guane dialect means "place for rest", could not have been more correct. Barichara is a timeless place. Its beautiful cobblestone streets, yellow stone buildings, whitewashed houses, bareque roofs and clay tiles remain intact, just as they were built many years ago.

In addition to the undeniable beauty that jumps at sight, the richness of Barichara is at the feet of those who walk through it: in its soil and stone. The earth is present in the houses and the stone in the streets and fences, in the culture and art of this municipality. What to eat?

The arequipe of Barichara stands out for its handmade production that gives it a flavor and texture that can only be achieved when the kitchen is impregnated with love and respect for tradition. You have to try it to know that there are many arequipes, but none like those of Santander and, specifically, like the one from Barichara.

In Guane you should enjoy the sabajón, a sweet and creamy drink with low alcohol level that is a legacy of the Spaniards. As the locals know that in variety lies the pleasure, in addition to the traditional sabajón there are coffee, vanilla and feijoa sabajón. And beware, they say, those who know, that each point of sale has its secret touch, its recipe and its flavor, so when you visit Guane it is worth going business by business trying them all and, perhaps, implement the route of the sabajón.
